THE 96 KILOMETRE GOLD COAST KOKODA CHALLENGE

20th - 21st Jul

For 2019 it's the 15th year, The 96 kilometre Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge.

This tough course is definitely a bucket list item to tick off, as it is commonly referred to as the toughest team endurance event in Australia: 96 kilometres of winding tracks through the Gold Coast hinterland, 5000 metres of vertical elevation to climb (and descend!) and 13 checkpoints to get through.

It’s time to prove to yourself that you can go above and beyond what you think your limits are and do something truly extraordinary.

Teams will need to pay a registration fee of AUD480 to enter The Kokoda Challenge. In addition to this, a minimum amount (AUD1600) of fundraising is required to compete in the event. This fundraising is crucial to their charity and the youth programs they facilitate.

The minimum age to participate in The 96 kilometre Kokoda Challenge is turning 15 in the year of the event (although you must be accompanied by an adult if you are under 18).

You will need a Support Crew that can be there for you at four checkpoints to give you food, changes of clothes, medical attention and much-needed encouragement!

GROUNDWATER COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

26th - 28th Jul

Groundwater Country Music Festival is a free to attend festival hosted in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast on July 26 to 28, 2019 with international and Australian artists headlining. The event is set on stages in the streets and parks of Broadbeach next to the beach.

GOLD COAST EISTEDDFOD

11th - 24th Aug

The Gold Coast Eisteddfod began in 1982 as part of ‘Tropicarnival’, Gold Coast City’s first ever Festival. It attracted some 600 competitors in the first year and whilst the Festival ceased in 2000, the Eisteddfod has continued to grow – it is now the largest competition of its kind in the country staged in August and September each year.

Entries are received from the south-east Queensland region and indeed from all States of Australia. Apart from individual entrants, around 158 Primary and Secondary Schools and more than 70 Dance Studios participate in sections which include Solo and Group Dance, Piano, Strings, Brass and Wind, Instrumental Groups, Bands, Orchestras, Vocal, Choral and Young People with Disabilities. In 2018, over 66,000 competitors took to the stage in 574 sections over seven weeks.

Venues are HOTA – Home of the Arts , Robina and Albert Waterways Community Centres.

The City of Gold Coast is major sponsor and without this outstanding support, it would not be possible to stage this major cultural activity. Associate sponsor Gold Coast Airport.
